Have you ever wondered what would be an easy way to fundraise for koalas and the work that we do?
We know many of you are users of social media – we see you there all the time! Many of you have fundraised on our behalf already and we REALLY appreciate and thank you for your efforts!
For those of you who don’t know or are not sure how to do it, we have decided to put this blog together to help you. First up – Facebook, Instagram and PayPal allow users to raise money for not-for-profits through their own accounts – great huh?
If you are a user and wish to support us, this is a wonderful, time-efficient opportunity to raise funds, increase awareness and involve others to save our lovely koalas from extinction.
Fundraising on Facebook
Your friends, family and colleagues can donate easily and securely through Facebook and the money is deposited into the Friends of the Koala bank account via the PayPal Giving Fund.
You get to decide what the fundraising occasion is. Perhaps it is part of one of our campaigns or a one-off personal occasion like your birthday, a challenge event such as a fun run, cake sale, car wash – the options are endless.
Login to Facebook
Use our simple fundraiser creation link: www.facebook.com/fund/friendsofthekoala/ or from your profile go to fundraisers. If using a laptop you should see a list of items similar on the left or if using the Facebook app you might need to click into your menu (circle with your profile pic on the right hand side) and if fundraisers is not showing as a shortcut, simply search fundraisers in the top search bar and you should see a yellow circle with a red heart.
Create your Facebook fundraiser
Once you’re in ‘FUNDRAISERS’ click on ‘RAISE MONEY’ and in the search bar enter Friends of the Koala (as shown in the image on the right). When you click on Friends of the Koala, Facebook will automatically generate the content for you as a guide but feel free to make it your own! Once you’re finished entering the details, you can connect to Instagram or go straight to ‘CREATE’. You will then see: “congratulations, your fundraiser has been published! Now it’s time to raise money.” There will be a list of options to invite your friends, share, donate and so on – choose how you want to share your fundraiser. You can also revisit the fundraiser at any time to check your progress, post updates, and manage it. The campaign will also be displayed at the top of your Facebook profile.
Create a Facebook post with a donation button
Another cool feature of Facebook is that you can create a simple post with a donate button that goes straight to the Friends of the Koala bank account.
All you have to do is start a post as usual, click on the three little dots or just scroll down to ‘RAISE MONEY’. Facebook will automatically generate a link for your post and all you have to do is add your own wording and image or anything else you like – tags, places etc – try it out!
How to fundraise in Instagram
Log in to Instagram
Once logged into your Instagram account, simply click on the three lines in the top right hand corner of the screen. Choose settings and privacy and scroll all the way down to ‘FUNDRAISERS’.
Once you click on ‘FUNDRAISERS’ you will be asked to create a fundraiser, from here, search for Friends of the Koala again, click on the name and then you will receive a screen to add a photo, a description of your fundraiser, a fundraising goal and any collaborators.
Then click on ‘SHARE’ and your fundraiser will be added as a post in your account – you also have the option to add the fundraiser to your story and you can find a link to the fundraiser in your bio.
How to fundraise in PayPal
Make us your favourite
If you are a PayPal user, then it too is another opportunity for you to fundraise with us. We like to make things easy for you and anyway that you can help us at all is a way to save koalas from extinction.
Use our PayPal Giving Fund for not-for-profits link: Donate with PayPal Giving Fund.
Or, start by logging to your PayPal account, either on your laptop or from the app on your phone.
Click on the three lines in the top left hand corner and scroll down to donate. Here, you will have the opportunity to set Friends of the Koala as your favourite charity. Just click on ‘SET FAVOURITE CHARITY’, search for Friends of the Koala and select, then click on the little heart to favourite us. From here you can also donate to us if you wish.
What about a microdonation? Microdonations such as $1 can have a big impact over a period of time and because it’s a small enough amount with no transaction fees, it makes giving easier for you. What do you think? Small donations can help us significantly over time.
Create a PayPal fundraiser
As well as selecting Friends of the Koala as your favourite charity, you can also start a fundraiser. In the same space – ‘GIVE’, select ‘START A FUNDRAISER’, which gives you a number of options – then choose one that suits you best.
For example, if you choose ‘SUPPORT A CHARITY’, you will also receive a prompt to search for our organisation – choose ‘Friends of the Koala’, add the title, goal amount and end date (up to 30 days).
You will then receive the next screen to tell your story and describe your fundraiser, the following screen gives you the option to upload a photo and then to create and publish the fundraiser.
Once published, you will have the option to share a link easily to friends and family across a number of platforms.
PayPal makes this possible through the PayPal Giving Fund, PayPal covers all transaction fees making your donation go further.
