Adopt a Koala! Shazza and her joey Reecey are wild koalas, and represent all the wonderful, healthy koalas living free in the bush.
Shazza first came into care in October 2016 when she was about 6 years old. While she had mild conjunctivitis, her joey Reecey was healthy, weighing just over 1kg. Both were very relaxed while in care, making them a favourite amongst the volunteers. Shazza only needed a short term of antibiotics and after 6 weeks in care, she and her little joey were released back into the wild.
Fast forward to October 2018 and Shazza was rescued again! This time she was found trapped under a house with her new back young. At the time of rescue, she was named Rain and her joey Bow, however it wasn’t before long we identified Shazza by her ear tag. Shazza and Bow were in perfect health and Shazza was found to be pregnant again!
While in care, we ran multiple tests all which came back negative, so we were able to release Shazza, Bow and Jellybean back into the trees nearby the Care Centre. It would seem that poor Shazza hasn't had much of a break when it comes to raising young, but she is such a great Mum and we hope she has many more in the years to come.
